OPP investigating after car hits a train in Stone Mills

Police are still searching for the driver of a motor vehicle that crashed into a freight train on Friday.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said emergency crews responded to a crash on Ninth Concession Road in Stone Mills Township just before 8 p.m.

Police said a dark coloured car hit a freight train and the driver fled the scene before they arrived.

OPP believes it’s the same vehicle they’d received multiple 9-1-1 calls about earlier in the evening — a dark coloured car was driving the wrong way on Highway 401 in Kingston.

OPP closed off Highway 401 East at County Road 6 Odessa briefly.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the driver or footage from the accident to call 1-888-310-1122.
