Police arrest ByWard Market arsonist

Police have charged a woman for a pair of dumpster fires on William Street earlier this week.

Ottawa Police Services (OPS) said two dumpsters were set on fire at around 3:00 a.m. Monday morning. Ottawa fire crews put them out and patrol officers determined the fires were intentionally set.

Police said they identified and arrested the suspect a few hours later.

Sunshine Madeley, 44, of Ottawa was charged with two counts of arson to property and possession of an incendiary device.

Police said she is still in custody.

OPS is asking anyone with information about these fires to call the Arson Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 4587 or by email at arson@ottawapolice.ca.
