Ottawa Food Bank receives ten-year, $1M donation

It’s the largest donation in the Ottawa Food Bank’s 40-year history.

Premium Meats has pledged one million dollars worth of meat and poultry products to be donated over the next ten years.

According to the food bank, one in seven Ottawa residents currently face food insecurity, and the city’s network of 112 food programs has experienced a 68 per cent jump in visits since 2019.

Spending on food items also spiked to $9.2 million last year – an increase of 46 per cent from 2022.

Rachael Wilson, CEO of the Ottawa Food Bank, said the donations of high-quality meat and chicken products, which are typically unaffordable for clients, are much-needed.

“This is the first gift of this size for the Ottawa Food Bank, and we are honoured to receive such generosity,” she said, adding it will ensure everyone in Ottawa has safe, reliable access to healthy food.
