Charges laid after serious assault at Millhaven Institution

An inmate at Millhaven Institution is facing charges in connection with a serious assault at the facility.

Correctional Service of Canada officials contacted the OPP-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad Penitentiary Squad around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 26.

An inmate had been violently assaulted and was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries caused by an edged weapon.

Another inmate, Cameron Alamina, 24, faces the following charges:

Aggravated assault
Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Carrying a concealed weapon

The accused remains in federal custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston on Feb. 29.
