OFS knock down two fires on Saturday

Firefighters took care of two fires in the city on Saturday night.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) said at the first call a 9-1-1 caller reported smoke and flames coming from a vacant building next to the Burger King at 199 Montreal Road.

Firefighters said the back of the building was on fire and they knocked it down before it could spread inside. Nobody was inside of the buildings.

OFS said they got a second call at around 8:15 p.m. when a resident of a single family home on Manotick Station Road reported a fire in their basement.

Fire crews saw flames coming out of basement windows when they arrived. They said the home is in an area of the city without hydrants so firefighters had to set up a shuttle system using tanker trucks to bring in water to extinguish the flames.

Firefighters treated two people on scene prior to paramedics arriving.

Victim assistance was requested for the both of them.

An Ottawa Fire investigator was dispatched to the scene.
