Still no firm opening date for Trillium Line

The head of OC Transpo is not committing to an opening date for the south extension on the Trillium Line, but is promising progress is being made.

“The big elephant in the room is when we will launch,” Renee Amilcar, Transit Services General Manager told the Transit Commission Thursday. “Things are evolving positively.”

She said the testing phase is currently underway, and the training of transit operators is expected to be completed by late May.

They are also identifying signal and infrastructure issues.

“We will better be better positioned to predict the pathway to passenger service as we move through all these activities,” she said.

Amilcar says the current work is critical and cannot be rushed, and they are taking into account lessons learned from the construction of Line 1.

“We must take the time to ensure our testing on the south extension is thorough if we want the system to be safe and reliable.”

The Trillium Line will run from Bayview to Limebank stations on Line 2, and South Keys to the Ottawa airport on Line 4.

More updates will be provided at a joint meeting of the Transit Committee and Light-rail Transit Subcommittee on May 31st.
