OPP catch drivers going well above speed limit on Hwy. 417

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) caught two drivers in the same area on Highway 417 going well above the posted speed limit, officials said.

Early Wednesday morning, an OPP officer sitting by Moodie Drive on the highway clocked a driver going 199 km/h.

“Speeds like this are extremely dangerous and can also result in the driver facing Criminal Code charges,” the OPP said in a post on X.

Police said a stunt racing charge was handed to the driver.

According to an OPP spokesperson, another driver was caught going 160 km/h in the same area shortly after.

“This is an area often targeted for enforcement by our officers because of the high speeds,” police told CityNews Ottawa in an email.
