Three Ottawa residents charged following high-risk traffic stop and loaded firearm seizure

Three people from Ottawa are facing multiple charges following a high-risk traffic stop over the weekend.

On June 1, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information that a vehicle travelling on Highway 17 eastbound from Pembroke was believed to have a loaded firearm inside.

Renfrew OPP located the vehicle, completed a high-risk traffic stop and closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 417, west of Campbell Drive.

As a result of the investigation, Pembroke and Renfrew OPP seized a loaded firearm, drugs and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Elijah Desmond Adan, 23, of Ottawa, faces the following charges:

  • Breach of firearms regulation — transport firearm or restricted weapon
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with
  • Adult possession of a schedule I substance — opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking — cocaine
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order (two counts)
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 — in Canada
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Adult possession weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking — cocaine
  • Fail to comply with probation order (six counts)
  • Trafficking schedule I substance — cocaine
  • Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

Marie Ebony Barnabe, 27, of Ottawa faces the following charges:

  • Breach of firearms regulation — transport firearm or restricted weapon
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm
  • Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking — cocaine
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 — in Canada
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose (two counts)
  • Trafficking schedule I substance- cocaine

Brandon Kennedy Earl Parent, 23, of Kanata, faces the following charges:

  • Breach of firearms regulation — transport firearm or restricted weapon
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with
  • Adult possession of a schedule I substance — opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking — cocaine
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 — in Canada
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose (two counts)
  • Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition in a careless manner
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Trafficking schedule I substance- cocaine
  • The three accused were held for bail.
