Porter launches new direct flight between Ottawa and St. John’s

Porter Airlines is launching direct service between Ottawa and St. John’s, N.L.

The move makes Porter the only airline to connect the Ottawa International Airport (YOW) and St. John’s International Airport (YYT) with non-stop flights.

“St. John’s is a long-awaited addition to our capital-to-capital network, offering a lively and vibrant destination that residents of Ottawa-Gatineau should explore this summer,” Joel Tkach, VP of business development and marketing for the Ottawa International Airport Authority, said. “Newfoundlanders are renowned for their warmth and strong connections with people across the country. Porter Airlines, whether directly to YOW or connecting through YOW to destinations beyond, is the perfect partner to enable these trips.”

The new route starts with daily service on the brand-new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, which Porter says carries up to 132 passengers.

It also means St. John’s passengers can now fly Porter non-stop to three Eastern Canada destinations: Ottawa, Halifax and Toronto.

“St. John’s is an underserved market in Eastern Canada,” Kevin Jackson, Porter Airlines President, said.

“Our passengers are asking for more new service and it’s exciting that Porter can provide another opportunity to enjoy our elevated economy experience between the nation’s capital and the east coast. This route also complements our growing presence in Ottawa, where we expect to see more than two million passengers travelling on Porter through the capital in 2024.”

Porter adds that its presence in Ottawa continues to grow, with more non-stop flights than ever before, and that as of August, the airline will operate as many as 35 daily flights.
