Driver clocked going well over speed limit on Hwy. 417
On the same day CityNews learned stunt driving charges are on the rise in Ottawa, provincial police nabbed yet another driver with a lead foot.
The Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) clocked a driver going 156 km/h in a 100 zone on Highway 417 around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18.
The driver received a 30-day driver’s licence suspension and 14-day vehicle impound.
The driver also faces a minimum $2,000 fine, six demerit points and a one-year driving prohibition upon conviction.
This latest charge comes as we learn stunt driving charges in first six months of 2024 are up.
OPP data shows officers laid 92 stunt charges in 2023.
As of June 12, police tell CityNews Ottawa there have been 81 stunt charges handed out.
