What’s open and closed in Ottawa on Canada Day?

With the holiday weekend in full swing, residents of Ottawa need to be aware of what will be opened and closed on July 1.

Here’s the complete list.

Malls

  • Most malls will be closed, except for the Rideau Centre which will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • The Tanger Outlet Mall will also be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Grocery stores

Four Ottawa grocery stores will keep their doors open on Canada Day:

  • Farm Boy Rideau Centre: Open Canada Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Loblaws on Isabella Street: Open July 1 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Loblaws on Rideau Street: Open Canada Day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Whole Foods Market at Lansdowne: Open July 1 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

LCBO/Beer Stores

All LCBO locations will be closed.

As for The Beer Store, there will be eight Ottawa locations open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Canada Day.

Client Service Centres

  • The City’s 3-1-1 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters only. Please visit ottawa.ca/311 for more information.
  • All services at Ottawa City Hall, Ben Franklin Place, Orléans and the City’s Provincial Offences Court will be closed.
  • The Business Licensing Centre at 735 Industrial Avenue will be closed.
  • The City of Ottawa Spay and Neuter Clinic at 26 Concourse Gate will be closed.
  • The City of Ottawa Archives and Gallery 112 at the James Bartleman Centre will be closed from Saturday, June 29 to Monday, July 1.
  • The Barbara Ann Scott Gallery at City Hall will be closed on Monday, July 1.
  • Green bin, recycling and garbage collection:
  • There will be no curbside green bin, recycling, garbage or bulky item collection on Monday, July 1. Pick up will take place on Tuesday, July 2. In addition, the collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
  • Residents can sign up to receive collection reminders and service alerts by email or phone call at ottawa.ca/CollectionCalendar.
  • Multi-residential garbage containers will be collected on the regular scheduled day. Collections of multi-residential recycling containers, bulky items and green bins will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
  • The Trail Waste Facility will be open on Monday, July 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Parking

  • All City parking regulations apply.

Recreation and cultural services

  • Most community centres and recreation facilities will be closed, with a limited number of indoor pools, arenas, and recreation and fitness centres open and operating on a modified schedule. Please check the facility pages on ottawa.ca for details.
  • Outdoor pools, splash pads and wading pools will be open. Beaches will be open with lifeguards on duty. Hours, details and locations are available at Outdoor swim and splash.
  • Arts Court, Nepean Creative Arts Centre, Nepean Visual Arts Centre, City-operated museums, Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe, and Shenkman Arts Centre will be closed.
  • Most indoor pools, arenas, and recreation and fitness centres will be open or operating on a modified schedule. Please check the facility pages on ottawa.ca for details. Please note that some regular public swims may be cancelled on short notice due to a shortage of lifeguards. It is recommended you confirm by checking with the facility before leaving home.  

Ottawa Public Health

  • The Site program office and supervised consumption services at 179 Clarence Street will be closed. The Site mobile van will operate from 5 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
  • Visit the ParentingInOttawa web page for vaccination clinic hours and availability.
  • The Sexual Health Clinic and satellite clinics will be closed.
  • Dental clinics will be closed.
  • The Parenting-In-Ottawa drop-ins will be closed on Monday, July 1.
  • Connect with a registered nurse from Health811 for free, secure, and confidential health advice. Service is available in English and French, with translation support also offered in other languages.

Employment and Social Services

All four Employment and Social Services offices will be closed on Monday, July 1:

  • 370 Catherine Street
  • 2339 Ogilvie Road
  • 100 Constellation Drive
  • 2020 Walkley Road

Municipal childcare services

  • All municipal childcare centres will be closed on Monday, July 1.

Ottawa Public Library

  • All branches of Ottawa Public Library (including Bookmobile, Homebound services and InfoService) will be closed on Monday, July 1.
  • Digital content, services, and program listings are available through the Ottawa Public Library website. Virtual programs are available on OPL’s YouTube channel
