Head-on collision of pick-up trucks leaves one person dead, 1 in hospital

The Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a crash that left one person deceased on Sunday.

The collision took place shortly after 1:00 p.m. yesterday, on Highway 62 — north of Madoc — where two pick-up trucks collided head-on, wrote OPP in an X post.

Madoc is a community in the municipality of Centre Hastings, approximately two hours from Ottawa, surrounded by cottage country.

According to OPP, a 74-year-old-man from Stirling, Ont. — the driver of one of the vehicles — was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Hastings-Quinte Paramedics transported the 68-year-old female passenger to hospital with serious injuries.

OPP reported that the driver of the other vehicle — a 64-year-old man — suffered non-life-threatening injuries and a 58-year-old woman in the same vehicle is facing serious injuries.

Both driver and passenger were transported to hospital.

Central Hastings OPP officers, in partnership with OPP Collision Reconstructionists and Technical Collision are investigating the collision.

Highway 62 was closed for several hours on Sunday, as police conducted the on-scene part of the investigation.
