OPP identify body from Ottawa River as missing female kayaker

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) identified the body they pulled from the Ottawa River last week as a missing 30-year-old kayaker.

The woman went missing when a kayak carrying two people overturned in rapids near the inter-provincial bridge on Highway 148 near Pembroke Sept. 18. This incident prompted a search and rescue with multiple agencies.

A week later, police now say the body they found Sept. 21 is the missing woman. Her identity will not be released.

The second person in the kayak, a 34-year-old male, was rescued by police with the assistance of private citizens Sept. 18.

The missing woman resulted in a days-long search effort involving the OPP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) along with Marine and Aviation Units from the OPP and the Sûreté du Québec.
