Man charged after vehicle struck bylaw officer breaking their leg

A By-law and Regulatory Services officer was issuing a ticket for an infraction on York Street shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 12, when the driver showed up, Ottawa Police Service (OPS) said.

According to OPS, the driver of the ticketed vehicle was uncooperative. In an attempt to speed off, the vehicle struck the bylaw officer, who suffered a broken leg.

Ottawa police identified the driver as Sarfaraz Khan, a 35-year-old male from Ottawa.

“Khan was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, dangerous operation and mischief to property,” wrote officials in a news release.

Bystanders and witnesses provided assistance to the bylaw officer at the scene.

The accused made an appearance in court this past Sunday.
