Police lay second-degree murder charge in fatal Vanier stabbing

One man is dead after a stabbing in Vanier.
The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) responded to a residence in the 200 block of Ste. Monique Street at 7:50 p.m. on Monday, Oct 28.
The next day, police say the victim is Jean Cowie, 50, of Ottawa. They arrested Elianne Assinewai, 58, with second-degree murder in connection to the stabbing.
She is scheduled to appear in court the afternoon of Oct. 29.
After this homicide, police noted there have been 18 incidents this year resulting in 23 deaths.
Prior, the latest homicide in the city was last week when a mother of four children was stabbed to death at a park on Uplands Drive.
The OPS Homicide Unit is continuing its investigation.
