Firefighters knock down a townhouse garage fire

Initial reports of heavy smoke from a garage of a townhome prompted firefighters to the area of Gloucester-Southgate yesterday.

Multiple 911 calls occurred at 4:25 p.m. When crews arrived they saw smoke and fire in the garage and flames were spreading to the eaves. A working fire was declared so additional resources could be dispatched to the scene.

A fast attack and advanced hose line in the structure. Firefighters searched the home twice and found no occupants.

Crews also made sure nearby buildings that were at risk of catching fire were protected.

The fire was under control at 4:55 p.m.

Victim Services and Ottawa fire investigators were dispatched to the scene.

“A ‘fire watch’ has been setup to have a truck remain on scene to monitor for any flare-ups,” a fire release reads.
