9 people displaced from two fires in Nepean-area communities

Fire crews tackled two fires yesterday afternoon that saw a total of nine people displaced.

The first blaze happened just after 5:00 p.m. on Nov. 27 in the Fisher Glen neighbourhood of Nepean. Crews received multiple calls for a shed on fire next to a two-storey residence.

Firefighters headed to the 0-10 block of Moria Court and found the shed fully engulfed and flames were stretching to the attic of the home. Crews initiated a fast attack.

Officials said they were told there may be occupants inside an adjacent unit. About 15 minutes after calls were received, crews needed to be evacuated from the structure due to fears of the roof collapsing.

Once the fire in the attic was contained, officials were able to head inside to search the building and confirm all occupants evacuated. The fire was declared under control about 45 minutes after first reported.

The second fire came a few hours later at 8:55 p.m. Fire communications received multiple 911 calls for flames and smoke from a bedroom of a single residential bungalow.

Crews arrived at the 0-10 block of Viewmount Drive — a few minutes away from the location of the previous fire.

Once on scene, firefighters met with the owner outside and confirmed no one was in the home. Crews doused the flames quickly but not before damage was done.

Fans were needed to ventilate the home and scars of flames and water damage can be seen on the ouside.

As a result, eight students are displaced from the blaze.
