More holiday-inspired events happening in Ottawa this weekend

From holiday markets to sporting events, food and family fun, the nation’s capital is jam-packed with activities for all ages this weekend.
Whether people are looking to warm up indoors or enjoy the winter wonderland and twinkling lights outdoors, Ottawa has lots of things to do. Stittsville’s Annual Parade of Lights is forcing a change in one OC Transpo route.
According to OC Transpo, Route 61 will be detoured on Dec. 7 between 4:45 p.m. and 10:15 p.m.
The closure of Stittsville Main Street will extend between Hazeldean Road and Brae Cres. to accommodate the Stittsville Parade of Lights.
OC Transpo is recommending commuters allow a few extra minutes for their travels. Click here for affected stops.
Events this weekend Dec. 6-8
- Russell Peters “Relax Canada! It’s not that serious world tour”: Stand-up comedy show at TD Place. Dec.7, 8 p.m.
- The Mayor’s Christmas Celebration: The Mayor’s 22nd Annual Christmas Celebration is taking place on Dec. 7 from 3-6 p.m., at City Hall. Visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus in their cabin, skate on the Rink of Dreams, and enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides. Tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m.
- Mochitsuki Market: Japanese cultural performances and martial arts demonstrations. Dec. 8 at Preston Event Centre.
- Elvis Experience – The Final Act Blue Christmas: Martin Fontaine pays tribute to Elvis Presley. Dec. 4 to 8, 8 p.m. at Casino Lac Leamy.
- 613Holiday Night Market: 140 vendors selling unique goods from 5-10 p.m., December 6th. Aberdeen Pavilion, Landsdowne Park.
- ‘Les Rendez-vous de la Bande Dessinée’: Activities for comic fans, including live drawing performances, round tables, workshops, and conferences. Presentations are in French. 25 Laurier Street, Gatineau. Dec. 7-8.
- Stittsville Parade of Lights: Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. Parade Route on Stittsville Main Street.
- Osgoode Village Parade of Lights: Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. Osgoode Main Street.
- Metcalfe Santa Claus Parade, Food and Toy Drive: Dec. 8 a.m. at 2 p.m. Victoria Street to 8th Line.
- Richmond Christmas Parade: Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. Parade will travel down McBean Street towards Perth

- ByWard Market Synthetic Ice Rink: Open Sunday-Wednesday 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. and Thursday-Saturday 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. Skating is free. A skate-rental kiosk is located nearby.
- Stanley’s Holiday Stroll: Take a stroll through through forest trails with lights and displays. Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane Farm. Every weekend from 10 a.m. – 4p.m., ending December 23rd.
- Magic of Lights: A drive-through display, lined with two-kilometres of LED lights. Nov. 22-Jan. 4 at Wesley Clover Parks.
- Alight at Night Festival: Over one million lights light up the historic Upper Canada Village. Runs until Jan. 4, from 5-9 p.m. every evening.
- Ottawa Christmas Market: Ottawa’s European-style Christmas market. Located in Aberdeen Plaza, Landsdowne. Enjoy seasonal food and drink, local goods, and live performances from Nov. 22-Jan. 5.
- SoulRhythms: African and Caribbean-inspired group dance classes, designed for all levels. Tuesdays until Dec. 17 at the NAC.
- A Country Christmas: Visit Saunders Farm for holiday-themed shows, Santa Claus, mazes, food, and a holiday light display. From Nov. 29-Dec. 30.
