Police looking into another Facebook Marketplace robbery in Ottawa

Earlier this week another Facebook Marketplace buy-and-sell ended in someone having a gun pulled on them.
It happened on Sunday in Barrhaven, a day before the violent scene in Manotick that resulted in a youth facing charges.
According to Ottawa police, a seller was meeting a prospective buyer in the area of Berrigan and Beatrice drives in the south community. The sale was arranged over Facebook Marketplace, the release notes.
During the meeting, the suspect pulled out a handgun and took the item from the victim.
Officers are looking for more information on the incident and if anyone has any video footage between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m.
This is the first of its kind robbery this week, but the second police are releasing details on.
Outside a CIBC bank on Monday, two people were meeting in a buy-and-sell transaction.
During the meeting, the buyer, who police later identified as a young offender, tried to rob the seller and pointed a gun at them.
In the incident, two shots were fired and no one was hit, the press release notes. Three people, including a security guard, the victim and an off-duty police officer took the suspect into custody.
The young suspect sustained minor injuries from the arrest and was taken to CHEO.
Safe trade zones at police station
Last year, Ottawa police created spaces for people to meet outside of a few police stations.
The locations encourage people to meet there from buy-and-sell websites, after officials saw a high increase in robberies involving similar situations.
Safe trade locations are located at the Elgin Street police station (466 Metcalfe St.), the Kanata police station (211 Huntmar Dr.), and the Orleans police station (3343 St-Joseph Blvd).
Safe trade locations are marked with a blue logo in these locations.
Despite the presence at police stations, OPS reminds the public that these spaces are not police-monitored and officials are not responsible for mediating the use of these spaces. Instead, the spaces are designed to move transactions away from secluded parking lots or private residences.
