Numerous collisions along Highway 416 and 417, OPP urging drivers to slow down

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Ottawa detachment responded to a handful of collisions along highways 416 and 417, in the early hours this morning.

As commuters face snow and icy road conditions, snowplow operators worked through the night to improve road safety for the morning commute, wrote OPP in a post on X.

But OPP warns there are still areas with snow and ice cover, advising drivers to leave extra time for their commute.

While Environment Canada issued heavy snowfall warnings Monday afternoon and into the night, drivers faced low visibility in areas of heavy snow, with snow cover and icy roads.

The weather agency warned yesterday that motorists should expect hazardous driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly.

At approximately 9 a.m. this morning, Ottawa OPP, Ottawa fire and Ottawa Paramedics responded to a collision on Highway 417 at Eagleson.

There are no reports of injury following the collision, wrote OPP East Region in a post on X.

The Ontario Provincial Police Ottawa Detachment is asking drivers to slow down while winter conditions impact road safety.
