Father-son duo charged after $100,000 worth of items stolen

A father and his son are being charged in connection to a robbery that led to over $100,000 worth of items being recovered.

According to a release from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers from the Russell detachment responded to a call for a theft from a construction site. The preliminary investigation found that two furnaces were taken. Officers asked the east region community street crime unit to help with the case.

On Jan. 14, the unit searched a home in Cornwall where $100,000 worth of stolen property was found, including the furnace from Russell.

As a result, Antoine Campagna, from South Glengarry, and Joseph Campagna, from Cornwall, were jointly charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 – Two counts
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 – Two counts
  • Trafficking in stolen goods under $5,000 – Two counts

OPP confirmed to CityNews the pair are father and son. Both will appear in a Cornwall court on Feb. 20.

Officials still have a number of items they suspect were stolen including:

  • 1 King Canada Generator
  • 1 Porter Cable air compressor
  • 1 York air conditioner
  • 1 Environsense hot water tank
  • 25 boxes of Mainstays engineered flooring

Similar thefts have taken place in nearby areas, leading officials to believe there are more victims.
