Fire crews were called to a blaze in a two-storey townhouse where a person had to escape through a second floor window.
It happened 2:10 a.m. on Saturday, and officials received multiple 911 calls reporting smoke and flames coming from the home in the 0-100 block of Nelson Street in the Lowertown community.
When firefighters arrived they were met outside by a person who lived in a nearby unit who said someone jumped from the second-floor window to escape the flames. Crews initiated a fast attack and brought a hose inside the structure where the first floor was fully engulfed in flames.
The fire was spreading to the second floor quickly. Crews set up ladders around the residence making sure that if another person was inside they could evacuate safely.
Soon, firefighters had put out the flames in the kitchen and living room on the first floor and shortly after the fire was declared under control at 2:54 a.m. Two searches of the building were done and no one else was found inside.
Officials reported that the fire did not spread past the first unit and after using fans to ventilate the adjoining apartments, people were allowed to return home.
The fire did displace three people.
