Ottawa police probing Vanier daylight shooting

Police are putting out a plea for witnesses after a daytime shooting in Vanier on Jan. 23.

It happened around 3:20 p.m. in the area of Lacasse Avenue and Blake Boulevard. Police were called to the scene after reports of shots heard in the area. Officers found one person suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived.

Paramedics told CityNews in an email that they responded to Richelieu Avenue for “a shooting that possibly occurred at another location.”

The victim was sent to hospital in serious but stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ottawa police said this is the third shooting of the year in the city.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to information and has not yet spoken with police to contact the Guns and Gangs Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 5050.

This comes after police posted on social media yesterday saying there was a “significant” officer presence on Lacasse Avenue for an investigation. Officials were asking people to avoid the area.
