One charged after man taken ‘against his will’ to withdraw cash

Police laid charges in a case where someone took a man in Bancroft, Ont. against his will to withdraw money from banks.

Officials said in a press release that the incident happened Sept. 20. They were told a resident of Bancroft was taken to different bank branches and forced to withdraw a “large amount of cash.”

He was then driven back to Bancroft and dropped off unharmed. Police told CityNews they were called by a concerned friend of the victim.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) from the Bancroft detachment conducted a lengthy investigation and issued a warrant for an Ottawa resident.

On Jan. 28 police were able to find the person and arrested them during a routine traffic stop by Upper Ottawa Valley officers.

The accused remained in custody following a bail hearing. Officials say they believe the incident was targeted and that there is no further danger to the public. The two men were known to each other, police confirmed.
