What’s open and closed in Ottawa this Family Day

The Family Day long weekend in Ottawa is just around the corner and residents can expect changes on Monday, Feb. 17 — including what’s open and closed, as well as city service impacts.

Family Day is considered a provincial holiday in Ontario, but not in Quebec or Federally.

Shopping

Malls and shopping centres in Ottawa will be closed on Monday, with the exception of Tanger Outlet Mall and the Rideau Centre.

Residents can expect the following changes to store hours:

City services

The City of Ottawa is advising residents of schedule changes and service impacts on Monday, February 17th.

This includes the closure of all Ottawa Public Library branches, municipal child-care centres, as well as employment and social services offices, wrote the City of Ottawa in a news release.

Additionally, all city parking regulations are still in effect on Monday.

Green bin, recycling and garbage

Curbside green bin, recycling, garbage or bulky item collection will be suspended on Family Day — with pick up rescheduled to Tuesday, February 18th.

Garbage collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week, noted the City of Ottawa.

While multi-residential garbage containers will be collected on the regular scheduled day, collection of recycling containers, bulky items and green bins will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.

Transit services

According to the City of Ottawa, OC Transpo buses and O-Train Lines 1, 2, and 4 will be running on a regular week-day schedule.

O-Train Line 1 will run from 5 a.m. – 11 p.m. and O-Train Lines 2 and 4 will run from 6 a.m. to midnight.

Route 301 to Bayshore and Carlingwood malls will not be running on Family Day.

The city is offering complimentary rides on the the Sno-Bus to several Winterlude sites across Ottawa and Gatineau. Those interested in riding on Family Day can visit octranspo.com for more information.

Additionally, OC Transpo is offering a 2-for-1 DayPass on Family Day, every Saturday, Sunday and statutory holidays, where two customers 10 years of age or older can ride all day for $12.

Para Transpo customers making regular bookings or recurring trips for Monday, February 17th will be automatically cancelled. Transportation can be booked for Family Day by calling 613-560-5000 or using My Para Transpo.
