A man is facing numerous charges after police launched an investigation after a veterinarian tipped off Animal Welfare Services.
Police started looking into the situation in January after a veterinarian clinic’s report detailed concerns of the well-being of animals. Officers got a search warrant on Feb. 21, and multiple units, including officers from the provincial police and the Provincial Animal Welfare Services, were on scene.
Inside the home, officials found four dead dogs and one dog “showing signs of neglect and abuse.”
Drugs, drug paraphernalia and Canadian currency was also seized by officers.
Andy Jay Ali, 34, of Jasper, Ont., was charged with:
- Willfully causing unnecessary pain and suffering to an animal (x4)
- Fail to comply with a release order (x1)
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (x1)
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for trafficking (x6)
- Possession of a Schedule III substance for trafficking (x1)
He appeared in a court earlier this week.
