Person rescued from under vehicle near University of Ottawa

Ottawa firefighters safely extricated a resident who was pinned and trapped under a vehicle Saturday morning near the University of Ottawa.

Around 6:45 a.m. on Saturday, the Ottawa Fire Services received a call from Ottawa Police reporting a resident trapped beneath a vehicle at the intersection of Laurier Avenue East and Cumberland Street.

When firefighters arrived on scene, it was confirmed the resident’s arm was entangled into the vehicle’s axle.

The Ottawa Fire Services’ Heavy Rescue vehicle was dispatched to the scene.

A post on X from OFS says firefighters used cribbing to stabilize the vehicle before beginning the extrication process. Lift bags and a jack were used raise the vehicle and special tools were used to remove parts of the vehicle including the rear tire.

At 7:21 a.m., the resident’s arm was removed from the axle and they were safely extricated from underneath the vehicle.

The scene was cleared and left in control of Ottawa Police.
