Ottawa police officers were able to arrest a man on the run in connection to a stabbing that happened in the city’s east end last month.
Officials said that Samuel Laurin-Gauvreau, 19, was wanted on an outstanding warrant after they found a man stabbed to death on Feb. 15. Police charged Laurin-Gauvreau with second-degree murder and assault with a weapon. He is expected to appear in court March 18.
He is the second man being tried for the murder of 25-year-old Omar Jonathan Grant who died in hospital after being stabbed.
That night police were called just after 9:25 p.m. in the 500 block of St. Laurent Boulevard.
Shortly after Jacob Blanchard, 25, was charged with second-degree murder and assault with a weapon.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5493. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers.
GoFundMe started for victim
A friend of Grant’s sister, Lexxus Gillespie created the fundraiser to help the family with burial and funeral costs.
“He was brutally stabbed in front of his own door,” Gillespie writes. “I have created this fundraiser with the blessings of his sister Natasha Grant to help with the cost of his burial and funeral service.”
The goal is to raise $10,000 for the family.
