Firefighters were called late Tuesday night for a fire in a multi-unit low-rise apartment building in the Lowertown community.
Crews responded at 10:42 p.m. after multiple 911 callers described a fire on the fourth floor of a building on St. Patrick Street.
Three minutes later teams were on scene and saw “heavy” flames coming from a window. A person had jumped from the window of the apartment to the ground to escape the flames.
Firefighters started a medical corner and assessed those that escaped including the one who jumped from the window. Their injuries included burns to their hands, arms and feet.
Paramedics arrived and continued treating the person. While this happened teams were busy extinguishing the fire and searching the building for people.
Just after midnight, the fire was declared under control and crews reported it did not spread to other units. Extensive ventilation efforts were needed for the rest of the structure.
A fire investigator was dispatched to understand what caused the blaze.
