Drugs, money, two loaded handguns seized in trafficking investigation

A months long investigation ended in an arrest and multiple drug trafficking offences for an Ottawa man.

In January, the Ottawa Police Guns and Gangs Unit began an investigation into an individual involved in the trafficking of drugs across the city.

A search warrant executed in the Alta Vista area Wednesday resulted in the seizure of cocaine, crack cocaine, oxycodone, two loaded handguns and a “large sum” of Canadian and American currency, OPS said.

Mustapha Yusuf, a 28-year-old Ottawa resident, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Three counts of Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking;
  • Four counts of Careless storage of a firearm, weapon prohibited device or ammunition;
  • Possession of proceeds of property or thing obtained by crime exceeding $5000;
  • Storing a firearm contrary to regulations;
  • Four counts of Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace;
  • Two counts of Possession of a restricted Firearm; and
  • 12 counts of additional firearms related charges.

Yusuf appeared in court Thursday morning.
