Impaired driving, stunt driving among charges laid against Ottawa man

A 38-year-old Ottawa man has been charged with stunt driving and impaired driving related charges after being stopped on Highway 417.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. on April 4, provincial police stopped the driver who was travelling 169km/h in a 100km/h area of the highway.

Upon speaking with the driver, police say they noticed signs of impairment. The driver registered nearly twice the legal limit.

As a result, 38-year-old Eric Laroque faces the following charges:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation
  • Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
  • Speeding – 50+km/h over posted speed limit

Officials say Laroque had his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 under Ontario’s Stunt Driving laws. He is scheduled to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
