Identity of dead 20-year-old released after shots fired in Nepean

A 20-year-old male is dead following reports of shots fired in Nepean.

Emergency responders were called to the scene in the 300 block of Craig Henry Drive at 9:30 a.m. Police identified him as Mahad Elmi of Ottawa.

A second person, a 21-year-old male, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

OPS says officers have been in the area collecting evidence and canvassing for witnesses. The incident is being actively investigated by the homicide unit.

Police report no suspects in custody at this time.

Police are asking residents to avoid the area and pull over for emergency vehicles. In addition, anyone with information is asked to contact police at 613-236-1222.
