Almost 100 charges laid in Ottawa Valley enforcement blitz

Police conducted a two-day safety initiative and laid nearly 100 charges while several people received warnings in the Ottawa Valley.

The blitz happened on April 12 and 13, and multiple Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachments in Ottawa and the valley assisted. Officers patrolled Whitney, Madawaska, Barry’s Bay, Golden Lake and Eganville the first day. On the next day, they shifted focus to more areas, including Beachburg, Westmeath, Pembroke and Petawawa. 

In total, police laid 94 charges and issued 35 warnings under the Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. Some offences included speeding, failing to have insurance, driving while suspended, unnecessary noise and more.

OPP mentioned that impaired driving checks were also done and no one was charged.

Some of the offences include:

  • Speeding: 46
  • Expired validation/permit: 12
  • No insurance: 8
  • Licence plate offences: 6
  • Equipment offence: 6
  • Seatbelt offence: 6
  • Commercial Motor Vehicle offence: 3
  • Licence offence: 2
  • No insurance card, drive while suspended, unnecessary noise, no helmet, moving violation: 1 each

“Keeping our roads and highways safe is everyone’s responsibility. Let’s all do our part,” police said in a release.
