Ottawa Fire Service’s water rescue team got an early morning call on Saturday for a vehicle that went off the road and into a river.
Firefighters were told by police a vehicle was near the 6400 block of Old Richmond Road in the Jock River. Crews saw the car had gone down an embankment and was pinned against a downed tree, partially submerged in the river.
They quickly stabilized the vehicle so it couldn’t sink further. Teams then made contact with the lone occupant, who was conscious but trapped in the car. A hose line was put out, as a precaution, officials said, and the team worked from the ground and in the water to extricate the driver.
Nearly 40 minutes after the initial call, crews said the driver was safely on the ground. They were placed on a backboard and carried out of the area by firefighters.
