A legendary singer-songwriter and Ottawa native was celebrated over the weekend on the University of Ottawa’s campus.
Alanis Morissette received her honorary doctorate from UOttawa, for her achievements in music and commitment to women’s empowerment, the school said in a post. The Canadian star is also being recognized for physical, psychological and spiritual integrity.
“Her deeply expressive music and performances have earned vast critical praise and seven Grammy Awards,” UOttawa said.
Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill tour changed the sound of pop music across the world and brought her a successful and influential career of making music, including nine acclaimed albums.
However, the doctorate was also for what Morissette has done outside of music, as a lifelong activist and advocate focusing on addiction and trauma recovery.
“A dedicated charitable activist, Morissette has supported numerous causes throughout her career,” it reads.
