Kayaker rescued after capsizing in Ottawa River

Ottawa Fire Services rescued a kayaker who fell into the Ottawa River in the Britannia Bay area Saturday.

Shortly after 2 p.m. a 9-1-1 call reported an individual had fallen out of their kayak and was hanging on the side unable to get back in. The individual was wearing a life jacket.

Upon arrival, the Water Rescue Team spotted the individual east of the Deschênes Rapids. The team launched their boats and made their way out to the individual.

The individual was put in a rescue boat and safely brought back to shore at 2:23 p.m.

Ottawa Paramedics say the kayaker was transported to hospital in stable condition but with hypothermia.
