One person was trapped inside their vehicle and another was on the ground, when firefighters arrived at the scene of a collision on Hunt Club Road.
Crews said they were called by Ottawa police around 7:27 p.m. on Monday. They were told a serious crash had happened, and one of the vehicles was “smoking.”
In three minutes, they arrived at the intersection of Hunt Club and Albion roads. They found one of the vehicles with significant damage to the driver’s side, trapping the person inside. Firefighters started their extrication process, which included stabilizing the car, deploying a hose for safety and using specialized tools to remove the driver’s door.
The person was extricated by 7:50 p.m.
While this was happening, Ottawa paramedics and another firefighter were treating the other person who was found on the ground outside the vehicle.
Paramedics told CityNews in an email that the driver of the SUV was a female in her 50s who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. She was sent to hospital in stable condition.
The other driver, an older female, sustained similar non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials from Ottawa fire applied absorbent to the leaking fluid from the vehicles and disconnected the batteries before leaving the area at 8:08 p.m.
