Two people rescued by firefighters after garage blaze in Barrhaven

Crews were called Thursday morning for a fire that started in the garage of a home in Ottawa’s south end.

According to firefighters, the call came in around 8:40 a.m. from a resident reporting a fire had started in their garage. Teams arrived and found “heavy black smoke” coming from the structure that was attached to a two-storey end unit townhome in Barrhaven.

Firefighters quickly initiated a fast attack while a second crew made their way into the home searching for people.

Teams helped two people out of the home while the blaze continued. Firefighters said that by 8:56 a.m. the situation was under control.

The structure was ventilated using large fans and a fire investigator was sent to the house.
