Tow operator stopped after watching YouTube on Hwy. 416

A tow operator will not be able to work for a few days after an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer charged them over the weekend.
The incident happened on May 19 on Highway 416. The police officer caught the tow driver watching YouTube while driving.
The driver faces a $615 fine, three demerit points and a three-day driving suspension upon conviction for distracted driving.
It wasn’t the only charge laid in Ottawa over the long weekend.
In another incident, an officer laid dozens of offences against two people from the city after a traffic stop for a stolen licence plate.
The vehicle was stopped on Coventry Road on May 17, when the officer got a notification from the cruiser’s Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology. The investigation led to police finding a replica firearm, drugs and stolen pieces of identification.
A 43-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman are facing charges of:
- Possession of property obtained by crime Under $5,000 – in Canada – six counts each
- Identity theft – obtain or possess another persons identity information – six counts each
- Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose possession of instruments of forgery
- Traffick in schedule I substance – Methamphetamine
- Traffick in schedule I substance – other drugs
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 – in Canada
