Ottawa fire assisted in construction worker rescue in Brockville

A construction worker was trapped for several hours yesterday under a concrete slab in Brockville.

A post by the fire department says that a call came in at noon, May 28, and within minutes, two of the municipality’s crews responded to 1481 Windsor Dr. to an under-construction building.

Immediately, teams recognized this rescue would require more support and called in Ottawa fire’s structural collapse team, along with other responders from Leeds and Grenville, Elizabethtown-Kitley and nurses and doctors from Brockville General Hospital.

The team from the nation’s capital, and members of the Brockville fire department were able to remove the worker by 4:30 p.m. He was sent to hospital in serious but stable condition.

“This incident was a remarkable demonstration of inter-agency cooperation, professionalism, and commitment to public safety,” the release from Brockville fire reads. “Thank you to everyone who played a role in bringing this operation to a safe and successful conclusion.”
