Ottawa man faces over 100 charges related to multiple break-ins, property theft and fraud

Ottawa Police Services (OPS) said they have arrested and charged a 29-year-old man from Ottawa following a “series of alleged property crimes.”

In a press release, police said the incidents occurred between March and May of this year all across the city.

This arrest helped solve 40 investigations involving many incidents of retail theft, break-and-enters and fraud.

According to police, the accused was allegedly involved in repetitive thefts where he targeted retail stores in Ottawa.

Many of the incidents were break-ins into “residential and commercial parking garages, where property and bank cards were stolen.”

The man in his 20s is facing nearly 120 charges which include:

  • Multiple counts of theft under $5,000
  • Break and enter
  • Fraudulent use of a credit card
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Resisting arrest
  • Numerous counts of Breach of Probation Order

The name of the accused was not released by police.

Police suggest even though many of the individual robberies were alleged thefts under $5,000, the total financial impact related to the offences surpass $100,000. This accounts for the stolen property, damages caused and costs incurred by victims.

OPS are now reminding people and business owners that it is important to report theft and property-related incidents even if the amount is of lower value.

Reports can be submitted directly to police online or at 613-236-1222, extension 7300.
