Hydro Ottawa is still working to restore power to customers across the city as Saturday night’s storm caused a series of outages.
At 9 a.m. Sunday morning, nearly 4,000 customers remain without power. That is a stark decrease from the number of customers who were in the dark around 1:30 a.m.
Hydro Ottawa has stated that some of the outages have been caused by tree contact and downed wires. Residents are reminded to remain at least 10 feet away from any down power lines and to report them immediately.
“Our crews are all hands on deck, working diligently and safely to get your lights back on,” Hydro Ottawa posted on X. “Thank you for your cooperation and patience.”
Late Saturday night and into Sunday morning a ferocious thunderstorm ripped through the region with winds reaching speeds of 100 km/h. Storms as such build up from the high pressure responsible for such hot temperatures.
The storm did little to bring any reprieve. Ottawa is forecasted to surpass a scorching 30 C over the next three days with Monday capping off at 36 C with a humidex making it feel like 46 C.
High heat and humidity is a dangerous combination. Ottawans are reminded to keep cool and stay indoors or to use publicly available cooling centres.
