Boy, 9, dead after collision with school bus while riding bike

 A 9-year-old boy has died following a collision with a school bus on June 25 in Almonte, Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said in a release that officers were called to the scene around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officials said the boy was riding a bike at the time when the collision happened with the bus.

He was a student at R Tait McKenzie Public School, but the incident happened near another school.

Police said witnesses provided life-saving measures before he was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead.

“School staff are shaken and grieving after the tragic incident in our community,” Casey Nelson, Upper Canada District School Board Superintendent, told CityNews.

The school board has supplied mental health support staff at the school on Wednesday and Thursday. They are there to help staff and students who need to speak to someone about the incident.

“Everyone is sending their deepest sympathies to the family and their friends during this very difficult time,” he said.

The investigation is ongoing and being lead by the Lanark County OPP detachment.
