Ottawa resident dies in boating incident on St. Lawrence River

An Ottawa resident is dead following a boating incident on the St. Lawrence River, OPP say.

Leeds County OPP were called shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday to reports of a capsized boat on the St. Lawrence River, north of Grenadier Island.

First responders confirmed a 15-foot aluminum vessel with multiple occupants have overturned. One individual was unaccounted for.

The Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service located one person unresponsive in the water. That individual, a 41-year-old from Ottawa, was transported by ambulance to local hospital. They were later pronounced deceased.

Leeds OPP, with assistance from the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team, are continuing the investigation.
