Ottawa man arrested for possession and distribution of child porn

In a press release, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) said they’ve arrested and charged a man following a child pornography investigation.

Members of the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit of Ottawa police executed a search warrant at a residence in Nepean on Thursday.

Officers arrested the home’s residence, 30-year-old Oscar Mulrooney-Cote, and charged him with child porn-related offences.

The arrest was the result of an investigation that began on July 24 as a result of a Cybertip. An OPS spokesperson said a previous tip was received in December 2023 but there was not enough evidence to proceed. A third tip was received on July 9 and routed to the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit (SACA).

During the arrest, responding officers also seized several laptops, a smartphone, hard drives and USB thumb drives.

Mulrooney-Cote is facing one count of distributing child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography.

The OPS spokesperson told CityNews that no victims have been identified at this point and no information or identifiers for the victims were included in the reports.

“We are hoping that thru information gathered from the examination of the device we can identify some victims and reach out to them,” they said.

Police said the accused is known to use the usernames “Quilltonx” and “Mess-Maker.”

As the investigation is ongoing, police ask anyone with information to contact the OPS’ ICE Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5660 and ICE@ottawapolice.ca. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers.

19-year-old also charged with child porn possession

Last month, members of the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit executed a warrant at a home in Osgoode and arrested a 19-year-old man for the possession of and accessing child pornography.

OPS is concerned there are more victims they have yet to identify in this case as well.
