Although temperatures are well above normals in the nation’s capital this weekend, data from Environment Canada shows it could come close to record-breaking.
Temperatures have once again soared for the second weekend into fall, with lots of sunshine and hot and humid temperatures for the next several days. Usually, the city is hovering around 15 C at this time of year.
Friday is clear skies and is a high of 25 C. Temperatures are expected to drop overnight but then bounce back up on Saturday, Environment Canada’s forecast shows.
The hottest it has ever been is 26.2 C.
Oct. 4 is expected to see a high of 26 C, with the humidex, it’ll feel more like 29. The highest temperature ever recorded came in 2005 with a heat of 27.7 C.
Sunday is supposed to be the same, the weather agency notes. Temperatures could reach up to 29 C.
Environment Canada’s future projections forecast above seasonal temperatures throughout September and much of October.
The heat is dulling the leaves’ colours this year in Ottawa, Ian Laidlaw, Davey Tree Expert Co. office, told CityNews previously.
“As the days get shorter, then the leaves stop getting as much sunlight and they start changing colours,” Laidlaw said.
But while the temperatures remain warm, the lack of rain throughout the summer impact how the leaves look.
He said the trees are quite literally using the water they can get to stay alive, rather than producing the beautiful colours we are used to seeing in the fall.
