Crews tackled an afternoon fire in Vanier over the weekend that impacted multiple units.
According to a press release from firefighters, they were called around 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 for smoke and flames coming from a second-floor window. The initial report said that one person was “attempting to jump” to escape the blaze.
It broke out in the 200 block of Granville Street in the Vanier North community in a three-unit, two-storey building.
There was “lots of thick black smoke” visible when firefighters arrived. They initiated a fast attack on the building, bringing a hose inside. Another team searched the building for people and did not find any.
By 2:06 p.m., crews had the blaze under control, but not before it severely damaged the units, photos from the scene show.
As a result, victim services was dispatched and a fire investigator is determining the cause.
