Man in critical condition after medical episode results in collision

An elderly man is in critical condition after suffering cardiac arrest while driving, prompting the partial closure of a major Ottawa throughway on Friday morning.

Paramedics told CityNews in an email that they were called around 10:40 a.m. to the intersection of West Hunt Club Road and Sunderland Street for a crash. Once there, they found a man suffering from cardiac arrest who was driving at the time of the episode, causing a “low-speed collision.”

First responders on scene initiated resuscitation using a defibrillator until paramedics took over during transport to the hospital. The man was in critical condition.

Ottawa police closed a stretch of West Hunt Club Road after the incident.
