Kitten back in owners arms after getting stuck behind dashboard of car

It was a purr-fect reunion just before the holidays.

On Dec. 24, a mother and daughter stopped by Ottawa Fire Station 41 after their brand-new kitten became lodged behind the glove compartment, OFS said in a post on X.

While firefighters did not say how the cat got there, felines, especially young ones, are prone to hiding as a defense mechanism.

“Whether it’s retreating from perceived threats or simply finding solace in a quiet corner, having a designated hiding space allows cats to feel safe and secure,” a blog post on the Ontario SPCA website states. “A hiding spot provides them with a sense of control over their environment, reducing stress and anxiety levels.”

But not all hiding places are safe for your furry little friends.

Firefighters took the vehicle into the station before carefully disassembling parts of the dashboard. The tiny stoaway was then extricated from the very tight space.

Snickers, the cat, was freed without injury.
