Two-alarm fire evacuates residences damages Richmond homes

Firefighters tackled a two-alarm blaze that saw multiple homes evacuated on Tuesday afternoon and two houses significantly damaged.

The call came in at 1:52 p.m. with residents reporting heavy smoke and flames coming from a two-storey single-family home in the 0-100 block of Pelham Crescent in Richmond. Crews arrived within three minutes and found the residence engulfed in fire.

Because of how close the homes are in this portion of the city, it was “critical,” teams said in a press release, to act quickly, preventing any extension of the blaze.

Firefighters brought in multiple hoses and aerial ladders to attack the inferno from the air and ground. They worked “aggressively to contain the flames” and protect the other homes, the release reads.

During this, teams searched both homes involved in the incident, making sure no one was inside. Nearby neighbours told firefighters a dog was inside one of the homes. Crews found the dog and brought it outside safely.

Officials were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to further homes and cleared the scene by 3:21 p.m.

As a result of the two-alarm fire, four adults and four children have been displaced. Victims’ services were not required, officials said.
